Historically, cats are said to have fallen prey to curiosity. Sensing an opportunity here, a private insurance firm is contemplating providing ‘Curiosity Insurance’ to cats. “They(cats) too have a life to be lived. But sometimes that gets abruptly ended by curiosity. And then what happens to its kith and kin? They need to be looked after. So this is where the ‘Curiosity Insurance’ helps. This would be a great gesture from our company aimed at animal welfare, particularly cats”, said a Very-Senior-Manager at the said insurance company.

While Maneka Gandhi has expetedy welcomed this move, she has also demanded this to be extended to 21 other animals a list of which she gave to the media and the insurance company. But the insurance company says it can’t extend it to other animals since there are no such idioms governing cases of those animals’ death.  Meanwhile fringe right wing groups have also come out against insurance companies for protecting just cats and not cows.  On the other end of the political spectrum, the left parties didn’t react as they were too busy finding some insurance against a possible defeat at the next year’s polls in West Bengal.
