This man is a doctor from a “good family”. He is also rumoured to have a ridiculous handwriting and is somewhat rude to incompetent people. So far, even if he’s not a Brahmin of the dwaita sub-persuasion he’s a catch in the eyes of matchmakers in Malleshwaram*.
Except he’s already taken. He’s been chosen. By the shura council of Al-Qaeda, to be its Emir. Dr. Ayman Al Zawahiri.
You see, even Al Qaeda wants doctors and engineers. Bin Laden was an engineer. Zawahiri is a qualified doctor.
So why, like the senile matchmakers in Malleshwaram, has the shura that leads Al Qaeda limited itself to doctors and engineers in picking a suitable boy? Because the literate are more efficient, calculating and…dangerous. Almost all of Al-Qaeda’s deadliest planners and operatives have been highly educated men.
And yet, among the great nations that Al Qaeda counts as its eventual and inevitable enemies India continues to choose illiterates, sycophants and those unwilling to make hard decisions to lead. Sigh.
