The Chinese air-craft carrier is the beginning of a 30-year-joke that’s about to be played on the Asia-Pacific region. It happens to be a barge with 30 year old technology out-manned, and outgunned by the US alone with a 11 to 1 ratio. But the US will use this one little boat to strengthen its alliances in the region, post more troops in this side of the planet and boost defense spending.
Much has been made about the S&P downgrade and how much American debt the Chinese own. The fact of the matter is..there’s no way the Chinese can collect. Not in this half of the century in any case.
The lesson for India in all this is: “watch and learn, dummy”. A great reason to build a modernized defense force quickly and cheaply is about to start floating on the South China Sea. We should seize this opportunity and scare those fat chavs and chavettes in our government into action, reduce red tape and get a move on.
